Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a field of study related to Special Education from an accredited college/university
  • Valid and Current Michigan Teacher Certificate required
  • Special Education endorsement required
  • 6-12 Subject Area Endorement desired

Responsibilities :

  • Serve as a team member providing diagnostic and programming expertise contributing to the identification of and program elements for special education students
  • Develop and implement individual special education plans for each student
  • Work cooperatively with teachers who have students with special education needs to ensure implementation of accommodations, modification, achievement of goals and objectives, support district wide and state wide assessments with accommodations, and interpreting the abilities and needs of students to the staff
  • Confer with parents and professional staff members regarding the educational, social, and personal abilities and needs of each student
  • Assist and advise students with educational, transition, and personal needs
  • Implement and maintain valid monitoring of student accommodations, modifications, social, and academic progress
  • Provide reports and data for students on the consultants caseload
  • Serve on the Response to Intervention and/or Multi - Tiered System of Support teams
  • Perform other such responsibilities and duties as assigned by district administration
  • Create live learning sessions for students to learn on-site or virtually, individually or in small groups
  • Modify and personalize curriculum to best fit student needs
  • Monitor student progress, log-in times, grades, and target end date and analyze data to make plans for interventions
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, Lakeshore personnel, and other community stakeholders by means of , email, phone calls, text, conferences, etc.
  • Actively participate in weekly meetings to discuss students short-term and long-term progress
  • Mentor students within the program and document necessary conversations
  • Transfer student grades on the approved record system
  • Become the Teacher of Record for credit recovery or elective courses as needed and permitted
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, both throughout the school year as well as outside of the school year, where appropriate
  • Participate in a Professional Learning Community setting by collaborating and communicating regularly with team of teachers.
  • Develop and use formative assessment tasks to guide instructional decisions, monitor student work, and provide feedback.
  • Attend selected events outside of the school day to build relationships with community and business partnerships. These events could include student orientation, parent-teacher conferences, or district-wide events.
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk over extended periods of time in a work day
  • Ability to sit up to for extended periods of time in a work day, and to sit/stand several times in short periods of time
