SALARY:

• $15.00 per hour Full Time hours
• 11a – 7p Wednesday through Sunday (No Mon/Tues)
• The Belmont Stakes in June, and the regular 2024 Track Season

LOCATION:
City of Saratoga Springs – Department of Public Safety

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following qualification(s) must be met and clearly stated on the City of Saratoga Springs employment application form: Either

• Applicants must be at least 18yrs of age OR
• Applicants must be at least 17yrs of age and written notice from BOCES verifying successful complete of the Traffic Control Curriculum. 

DUTIES: This position exists in the Department of Public Safety and involves responsibility for control of vehicle and pedestrian traffic at assigned street intersections and other locations while the Saratoga Springs Race Track is in operation and during special events. An incumbent is responsible for directing the flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic before and after the races or special events in accordance with established regulations, rules and policies. This position differs from that of a Police Officer in that an incumbent is not a peace officer, does not carry firearms or issue traffic tickets. The VEHICLE TRAFFIC CONTROLLER does not have responsibility for law enforcement. The work is performed under direct supervision of traffic safety unit. The incumbent does related work as require.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES : (Illustrative only)

• Directs traffic at street intersections, race track entrance, and special events;
• Controls entry to and exit from race track and locations at which special events are being held;
• Signals traffic directions to operators of motor vehicles or pedestrians at crossing points by using hand signals and/or traffic control device;
• Provides directions, assistance and information to visitors;
• Takes notice of unusual, suspicious occurrences and unsafe conditions at special events sites and reports incidents to police or other proper authorities.
• Prepares simple traffic control reports of daily activities such as difficulties with traffic flow, estimated number of vehicles directed to particular track gates, traffic obstructions which may cause accidents or other related problems.
