Position Title: Traffic Control Coordinator
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour
Job Description:
The Traffic Control Coordinator (TCC) is a full-time position and the employee designated as TCC must be available on a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week basis. The TCC shall have the responsibility for and authority to implement and maintain all traffic operations for the Project on behalf of the Contractor. Ensure that the TCC is present at the work site at all times while the Work is in progress. The TCC’s responsibilities and duties shall include the following:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement traffic control plans (TCP) for each job site.
2. Ensure all traffic operations are conducted with safety considerations for motorists, pedestrians, and construction workers.
3. Maintain compliance with Standard Roadway Construction/Traffic Control/Bridge Construction Details and the current Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
4. Oversee lane closures and lane shifts according to minimum standards.
5. Stay on-site during all work hours and be available 24/7.
6. Coordinate with project management and field staff to ensure effective traffic control.
7. Conduct regular traffic control inspections and implement necessary adjustments.
8. Train and oversee additional traffic control personnel as needed.
9. Ensure all traffic control devices are properly installed, maintained, and removed.
10. Respond to traffic incidents and emergencies promptly.
11. Maintain accurate records of traffic control activities and adjustments.
12. Communicate with local authorities and stakeholders regarding traffic control measures.
13. Conduct safety briefings and training sessions for site personnel.
14. Stay updated with the latest traffic control regulations and best practices.
15. Implement a TCP for each job site with adequate consideration for the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and construction workers.
Qualifications:
- Certification from the Rutgers CAIT Traffic Control Coordinator Program or an equivalent course approved by the NJDOT Office of Capital Project Safety.
- Completion of an approved Traffic Coordinator refresher course every 2 years.
- Strong knowledge of traffic control regulations and best practices.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and be on-call 24/7 when construction is underway.
Working Conditions:
- Requires availability to work nights and weekends.
- Must be present at the work site at all times during active construction hours.
