First American's National Production Services division provides global title and escrow production support across all channels within First American Title including the Mortgage Services, Commercial, Direct, and Agency divisions. The Title Examiner role involves searching public records and examining titles to determine the legal condition of property titles, primarily for residential properties. Responsibilities include copying or summarizing recorded documents affecting title condition, working independently to examine titles of varying complexity, abstracting and analyzing records such as mortgages, liens, judgments, easements, vital statistics, and plat and map books to determine ownership and legal restrictions, resolving issues with title documentation, preparing initial title commitment documentation, reviewing reports for accuracy, and possibly providing underwriting interpretation within guidelines. The role requires 2+ years of Virginia state title exam experience, strong analytical, research, problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills, proficiency with MS and company operating systems, and knowledge of legal terms is helpful.
