Job Description

Kawa Omakase is an upscale, reservation only restaurant. French Italian techniques infused into Japanese cuisine, offering sophisticated seasonal courses menu.

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food service and culinary arts, with a focus on sushi preparation and presentation. As a Sushi Chef, you will be responsible for creating high-quality sushi dishes that meet our restaurant's standards while ensuring food safety and hygiene practices are strictly followed. This position requires creativity, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing an exceptional dining experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and present a variety of sushi dishes, including nigiri, sashimi, and rolls, with precision and artistry.

  • Ensure all ingredients are fresh and of the highest quality by sourcing from reputable suppliers.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, adhering to food safety standards at all times.

  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely service during peak hours.

  • Monitor inventory levels of sushi ingredients and communicate needs for ordering supplies.

  • Stay updated on current sushi trends and techniques to continually enhance menu offerings.

  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff in sushi preparation techniques as needed.

  • Assist in menu development by suggesting new sushi items or seasonal specials.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Sushi Chef or in a similar role within the food industry is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in the kitchen environment.

  • Culinary degree or relevant certification is a plus but not mandatory.

  • Experience working in fine dining or high-volume restaurants is advantageous.

  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining high-quality standards.

  • Excellent knife skills and familiarity with various sushi preparation techniques.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Passion for culinary arts, particularly in Japanese cuisine, with a willingness to learn and grow within the role.
