Position Description Summary


Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for temporary faculty positions (full-time one semester, part-time one semester, or part-time academic year) for Sport Management as needs arise in the Department of Management.

Duties


Based on the specific needs of the department at the time of appointment, a successful applicant must be qualified to teach both undergraduate and graduate-level courses on campus and/or online in the following fields: Sport Administration and Sport Management.

Courses may include but are not limited to the following undergraduate courses: SPMG 130 Introduction to Sport Management; SPMG 230 Contemporary Issues and Problems in Sport Management; SPMG 231 Sport Sales, Sponsorship, and Fundraising; SPMG 330 Psychology of Coaching; SPMG 332 Management and Leadership in Sport; SPMG 333 Sport and Society; SPMG 335 Sport Marketing Management; SPMG 334 Sport Law and Ethics; SPMG 336 Sport Management and Community Relations; SPMG 337 Governance of Sport; SPMG 338 Sport Media Communication Relations; SPMG 430 Sport Facility Management and Operations; SPMG 431 Sport Business Finance.

Additional Graduate level courses in Sport Management may be included: SPMG 530 Research Methods; SPMG 532 Ethics in Sport; SPMG 551 Financial Management in Sport; SPMG 531 Sport in American Culture; SPMG 552 Marketing and Public Relations; SPMG 553 Legal and Policy Issues in Sport; SPMG 550 Leadership in Sport Organizations; SPMG 554 The Global Soccer Industry; SPMG 556 Sport in the Global Marketplace; and SPMG 555 International Sport Organizations and Governance.

The location for these temporary positions varies with the expectation of serving a multi-campus University within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

Qualifying Experience and Education (Minimum/Preferred)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A master's degree in Sport Administration or Sport Management or a closely related field.
  • Academic specialization, prior teaching experience, and/or prior professional experience relevant to course assignment needs of the department at the time of the appointment. Please indicate which program courses you believe you are qualified for.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and/or knowledge of diverse populations.
  • Evidence of or potential for effective teaching.
  • Professional qualifications specified in the Zeigler College of Business' policy for faculty qualifications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A doctorate degree in Sport Administration or Sport Management or a closely related field is
  • Candidates with experience and willingness to teach face-to-face and online are preferred.

Background Clearances


Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors. In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date. The remaining PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Clearance must be successfully completed and returned as soon as possible within the first 90 days of employment.
