Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) - Object Storage Location: Seattle, Washington, United States Category: Software and Services Description We are seeking experienced software and systems engineers to join Apple's Object Storage SRE team. This role offers significant responsibility and influence over the platform's direction, impacting critical Apple Cloud services used by millions of users. The ideal candidate is solution-oriented, passionate about delivering software as a service, and committed to improving reuse, efficiency, and simplicity. Responsibilities include understanding team priorities, owning projects, designing solutions, building consensus, and ensuring successful delivery. The role involves providing technical feedback, driving standards, and participating in an on-call rotation to maintain high availability and performance. The team collaborates across time zones, with meetings spanning UK and US locations. We utilize a mix of open source, licensed, and internal tools for configuration management, deployment, logging, and monitoring, offering opportunities to learn and improve these tools. Minimum Qualifications 7+ years of experience with distributed storage systems or large-scale, stateful systems like distributed databases. Proficiency in coding languages such as Go (preferred), Java, Python, or Rust. Strong understanding of Linux storage solutions (LVM, XFS, ext4, S3, Ceph, Gluster, NFS). Knowledge of Linux internals, networking protocols, and distributed systems. Experience with provisioning, data migration, backup & recovery, testing, disaster recovery, and capacity planning. Preferred Qualifications Strong drive to automate and improve manual operations. Knowledge of storage deployment best practices, change management, failure domains, and hardware lifecycle. Hands-on experience with configuration management and deployment tools (Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Spinnaker). Experience supporting and monitoring services and platforms. Familiarity with microservices architecture and Kubernetes. Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases (Cassandra, Postgres, RocksDB). Compensation includes a base salary ranging from $166,600 to $296,300, dependent on experience and location.
