Job Description

MaineHealth is seeking a highly collaborative and inspiring physician leader for MaineHealth Medical Group’s Senior Medical Director of Medical Affairs and Administration role.

The Senior Medical Director is responsible for the overall clinical affairs of the more than 2,600 physicians, APPs and other clinicians employed by MaineHealth Medical Group. Key responsibilities include oversight of physician and APP recruitment, documentation audit with coding educating, and administrative support for MaineHealth Medical Group leadership functions. The Senior Medical Director is instrumental in supporting the hiring, onboarding and continued professional development of physicians and APPs of all specialties across the medical group.

This leader partners closely with colleagues across the health system, including key relationships with Finance and Government Affairs, to ensure that medical group organizational goals are being achieved. The Senior Medical Director will support the medical group’s Chief Medical Officer and Regional Vice Presidents of Physician and APP Services as well as the Director of the Center for Advanced Practice with performance and compliance related concerns.

The Senior Medical Director is an integral part of the MaineHealth Medical Group senior leadership team and works alongside MaineHealth Medical Group’s Chief Medical Officer, to whom they report. It is expected that 60% of the Senior Medical Director’s time will be dedicated to administrative effort and 40% to clinical effort.

Requirements:

  • Education: MD or DO.
  • License/Certifications: Board Certified/Eligible. Eligible for medical license by the State of Maine.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years' progressive and relevant healthcare management experience. Physician practice leadership experience. Provider full cycle recruitment and auditing experience preferred.
  • Ability to provide direction and inspire people to accomplish organization goals.
  • Strong focus and demonstrated interest in quality and performance in outcomes.
  • Clinical credibility.
  • Ability to understand and appreciate the differences and similarities of clinical practice across the MaineHealth Medical Group practice entities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated communication skills.
  • Broad understanding of management and finance.
