Job Class: Non-Exempt / Reports To: Security Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Security Officer provides protection of clients, guests, employees, and property against criminal activity. Responsibilities include monitoring safety, fire protection, and security of the facility. Assists other areas of the department such as valet/bell, front desk, etc. as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: NOTE: Hotel Andaluz may unilaterally may change the requirements of this job description at any time. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Restricts parking by loading dock, employee entrance, and fire lanes.
• Continually monitors and checks video monitors, alarm systems, and other surveillance equipment while in the Security office.
• Registers all visitors, vendors, and contractors in accordance with procedures.
• Ensures secure premises by thoroughly checking all floors, stairwells, exit doors, storage areas, critical access areas, fire and safety equipment, parking lots, etc., in accordance with security checklist.
• Reports any unusual occurrences and incidents in logbook. Completes appropriate reports when applicable.
• Procures evidence and witness statements for above reports.
• Reports any deficiencies in safety or security of the property, staff, or guests.
• Ensures that all parts of the facility are secured and locked at their scheduled times, fire extinguishers are working properly, fire doors are cleared, and parking regulations are maintained.
• Performs package inspection procedures on outgoing associates as dictated by policy.
• Issues keys and radios to staff as needed tracks on log and ensures they are returned.
• Accompany vendors on deliveries within hotel and stay with them until they are finished.
• Hand out paychecks on paydays and also hand out W-2 at year-end.
• Put up elevator blanket and mat for vendors to ensure elevator and floor are protected from damage.
• Act as the point of contact for worker's compensation injury paperwork packages.
• Assists in monitoring the valet lot and helping to tow and boot vehicles parked without permission.
• Send and receive all company packages
• Ensure that all areas are secure and that any persons who should not be in the hotel are promptly asked to leave.
• Assist in handling difficult situations with guests or non-guests.
• Gathers, logs, and processes guest dry cleaning.
• Collects lost and found items, records in log, stores securely, makes attempts to return to rightful owners.
• Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (INCLUDES EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE): The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• High School Diploma/GED
• Requires a minimum of one (1) year of experience directly related to the essential functions, including security and customer service experience.
• Must be First Aid, AED, and CPR certified.
• Requires the ability to drive automatic transmission vehicles to assist valet when needed.
• Must be Alcohol Certified in the state of New Mexico or be able to pass Responsible Service of Alcohol Test within 30 days of hire.
• Must be proficient in the use of common Windows-based programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Must display very good organization and time management skills.
• Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with many types of personalities.
• Must have sound judgment and discretional skills and be able to work with little supervision.
• Must be able to consistently work under pressure and simultaneously prioritize multiple projects.
• Must be to work with sensitive and confidential material.
• Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.
• Willingness to maintain the highest level of confidentiality regarding guests and staff.
• Must possess a valid New Mexico driver's license, vehicle insurance, good driving record and reliable vehicle.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Level One Security Certification
• The ability to drive a standard transmission vehicle

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and talk or listen.
• The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; jog, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• This position requires frequent manual dexterity in combination with eye/hand coordination such as handling of equipment.
• Will have repetitive hand motions and prolonged periods of standing.
• Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
• The employee must occasionally lift and carry up to 60 pounds. Must be able to push up to 100 lbs of force occasionally.
• Ability to stand during entire shift, and/or alternate between sitting, standing and walking for entire shift.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to high.
• Exposure to heat, cold, and mild chemical exposure.
• Must be able to occasionally drive during shift.
• Must be able to travel (10%) within the metropolitan area as needed
