Job Description

Role Overview:

As an HECM Underwriter, you'll play a key role in ensuring that residential loans meet our high standards for compliance, accuracy, and thoroughness. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve reviewing loan applications, collaborating with team members, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of HECM product guidelines. Key Responsibilities:

- Loan Review & Compliance: Carefully review loan applications and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with HECM guidelines and company policies.
- Timely Processing: Maintain efficient processing times for initial decisions and condition reviews, meeting departmental expectations.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Loan Originators, Branch Managers, and Processors to gather and verify required documents, and resolve any issues that arise.
- Knowledge Maintenance: Stay informed about HECM product guidelines and risk assessment tools, and apply this knowledge to your underwriting decisions.
- Loan Evaluation: Assess borrower profiles, including income documentation, credit reports, and appraisals, ensuring all necessary information is requested to support sound credit decisions.
- Manual Underwriting: Demonstrate proficiency in manual underwriting practices and stay up-to-date with secondary market trends and industry practices.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain positive relationships with loan originators, management, and processors to foster a collaborative working environment.

Qualifications:

- Experience: At least 3 years of experience in residential loan underwriting. DE certification and recent FHA underwriting experience are preferred.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of FHA/HECM policies, fraud prevention tools, and secondary market practices.
- Skills: Proficiency in MS Office and demonstrated ability to manage relationships effectively. Experience with mortgage processing, repurchase responses, and analysis is a plus.
- Adaptability: Proven track record of thriving in a fast-paced, changing environment and effectively handling complex issues.

- Work Environment: This is a remote position, so you will need access to a quiet home office space and reliable internet connection.
- Travel: Some local travel may be required for company meetings or events.
