Job Description
Overview:
As an HECM Underwriter, you'll play a key role in evaluating residential loans to ensure they meet all necessary standards and regulations. You'll review loan documentation for accuracy and completeness, and work closely with Loan Originators, Branch Managers, and Processors to gather and verify required documents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review loan applications and associated documentation to ensure they comply with HECM guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain timely decision-making and condition reviews as per department expectations.
- Collaborate with Quality Control, Compliance, and Funding teams to resolve issues and address risk evaluation and compliance concerns.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of HECM product guidelines and risk assessment tools.
- Modify loan terms as needed and identify additional conditions to ensure a sound credit decision.
- Assess borrower profiles, including income documentation, tax returns, credit reports, and appraisals, ensuring all necessary documentation supports final loan decisions.
- Demonstrate proficiency in manual underwriting policies and procedures.
- Stay informed about secondary market activities and their impact on underwriting quality and origination.
- Foster strong relationships with loan originators, management, and processors.
- Utilize MS Office products effectively.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of residential loan underwriting experience.
- DE certification and recent FHA underwriting experience are preferred.
- Strong understanding of FHA/HECM policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with various fraud detection tools.
- Proven experience working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Ability to manage relationships with both internal and external partners effectively.
- Previous experience in mortgage processing is a plus.
- Experience with repurchase responses, rebuttal reviews, and preparation is advantageous.
- Strong skills in reporting, analyzing, interpreting, and critical thinking.
Work Environment:
- This role is primarily remote, requiring access to a quiet home workspace and reliable internet.
- Local travel may be necessary for company meetings, career-related events, or programs.
