Research Assistant (Regular, Part-Time)

Decorative Arts and Design

Reporting to the Curator of Decorative Arts and Design, the Research Assistant will provide research and administrative support for LACMA’s forthcoming exhibition on the pioneering Black architect Paul Revere Williams (1894-1980), part of a collaborative three-venue presentation of his work. The successful candidate will demonstrate a knowledge of twentieth-century architectural history, experience with primary source research, and exemplary organizational skills and attention to detail. This is a termed position projected to end on June 30, 2025, with the possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct primary and secondary source research in local archives, libraries, and databases.
  • Build and maintain shared research files.
  • Produce research summaries on building projects and other pertinent subjects
  • Manage the exhibition checklist, updating details needed for loans, display requirements, design, and other aspects of the exhibition.
  • Coordinate with internal LACMA departments, partner organizations, and external consultants.

Benefits:

  • The expected hourly for this position is $21.00 - $23.00, subject to change.
  • As a temporary part-time employee, under the terms of Museum Associates' benefits plan and policies, you will not be eligible for Museum Associates' sponsored benefits.

Qualifications:

  • B.A. (M.A. preferred) in architectural history, historic preservation, architecture, material culture, art history, or other related fields. Familiarity with interpreting architectural drawings would be a great asset.
  • At least one year of museum or related experience, including fellowships or internships
  • Demonstrated experience conducting archival research
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, and a willingness to work collaboratively
