We are seeking a seasoned Permanent Mortgage Underwriter with DE and/or LAPP/SAR certifications to join our dynamic and rapidly growing team. This is an incredible opportunity to leverage your experience and skills in the Mortgage industry, specifically with VA and FHA loans. You will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, approving, and underwriting difficult, complex individual consumer requests and products within company and industry guidelines. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mortgage lending and loan underwriting, with exceptional attention to detail and superior time management skills.
Responsibilities:
1. Evaluate and verify loan applications to determine the client's creditworthiness while adhering to all FHA and VA guidelines.
2. Analyze loan risk and request additional information as necessary to ensure loans will be viable for the long term.
3. Prepare reports on assessment findings and communicate this information to the relevant parties.
4. Review and verify borrowers' income, credit reports, employment histories, property appraisals and title insurance information to confirm the loan applicant meets the standards for the loan or mortgage package.
5. Make loan eligibility decisions and approve or reject applications, based on existing criteria.
6. Review all mortgage loan documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards, federal and state laws, and other regulations.
7. Work closely with loan originators and production staff to secure all required documents.
8. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of regulatory changes and trends in the mortgage industry.
Qualifications:
1. 5+ years of experience as a Mortgage Underwriter or similar role.
2. Current DE (Direct Endorsement) and/or LAPP/SAR (Loan Prospector Automated Underwriting System/Staff Appraisal Reviewer) certifications are required.
3. Proficiency in VA, FHA, Loan, Mortgage, Mortgage Lending, and Loan Underwriting.
4. Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.
5. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
6. Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
8. Familiarity with mortgage loan software and computer systems.
9. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations, and a strong understanding of company underwriting policies and guidelines.
10. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to the highest level of professional and ethical standards.
