Base pay range
$34.90/hr - $52.35/hr
Responsibilities
- Utilizes the nursing process to provide ongoing care according to age-specific and specialty-specific needs. Assesses educational needs and provides teaching and counseling to patients and families. Integrates health promotion and preventive care. Integrates symptom assessment and management according to the treatment plan. Assesses social determinants of health that could impact care and coordinates care with resources (e.g., navigation, social work). Maintains primary responsibility for caseloads in the specialty area.
- Anticipates and recognizes changes in patient status and needs for care. Determines priorities based on patient needs and the treatment plan. Oversees ongoing assessment of patient response to services, updates care plans as needed, and communicates with physicians/providers to confirm and update the plan. Coordinates care in alignment with oncology care, including the oral chemotherapy plan where applicable.
- Administers medications in infusion center settings (including chemotherapy, biologic therapies, antibiotics, and other IV meds). Performs central venous access device management, transfusion of blood products, and therapeutic phlebotomy per guidelines and policies.
- Provides telephone consultation/triage and care coordination to patients, families, and others according to protocol and policies.
- Maintains and updates accurate clinical and patient records according to system policies and state and federal guidelines.
- Assists in the development and implementation of staff orientation and educational activities.
- Follows published policies and procedures and monitors changes or additions to them.
- Takes ownership of professional development in the specialty, strives to advance clinical skills, and participates in governance activities; shares knowledge to elevate quality of care in line with current standards.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care and assesses data relevant to the patients age-related needs, as described in department policies and standards.
Licensure, Registration And/or Certification Required
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice; Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification (American Heart Association) to be obtained within 6 months.
- Oncology/Infusion certifications as applicable: ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Provide Card/Certificate within 30 days of hire (preferred at hire).
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) preferred for oncology departments; CRNI (Certified Registered Nurse Infusion) for non-chemotherapy infusion settings.
Education Required
- Associate's Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
Experience Required
- Typically requires 2 years of experience in a clinical setting with specialty exposure.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
- Ability to work independently and make sound judgments.
- Exceptional organization and communication skills (oral and written) and customer service.
- Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to work with diverse patient populations.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
- May involve exposure to cytotoxic and hazardous materials, blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases; use protective clothing and equipment as necessary.
- Physical activities include sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, reaching, and other movements throughout the day; lifting up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, up to 20 lbs overhead, carrying up to 40 lbs, pushing/pulling with 30 lbs, and sliding transfers with assistance.
- Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch, with ability to perform procedures such as IV insertion; operate necessary equipment.
