Pilots – Flying for a good cause

Rapid emergency air rescue and safe patient transport by helicopter and air ambulance – that's what the non-profit DRF Luftrettung (German Air Rescue) stands for. We are one of the leading air rescue organizations in Europe, flying more than 40,000 missions a year.

Whether on the ground or in the air, our approximately 180 pilots set high standards in flight operations. Careful crew deployment planning, meticulous monitoring of flight duty and rest periods, and continuous training and courses are fundamental to ensuring these standards. The DRF Luftrettung fleet includes state-of-the-art helicopters such as the H135 and H145 models with five-blade rotors. Our team has extensive and long-standing experience with specialized procedures such as night flying, winch rescue, takeoffs and landings in densely populated areas, missions in alpine terrain, and offshore operations. In 2004, DRF Luftrettung became the first air rescue organization in Germany to receive accreditation as its own Approved Training Organisation (ATO).
