Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist


AB Staffing is looking for an experienced Orientation & Mobility Specialist that is available for the 2025/2026 school year.

Orientation & Mobility Specialist Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility from an accredited university.
  • COMS certification (Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist) through ACVREP, or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired in educational settings.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Experience providing O&M services in public school settings.
  • Familiarity with current O&M practices, assistive technology, and accessible travel tools.
Salary:
  • $2,250 - $2,437.50 per week
Job Description:
  • Caseload and details of position/classroom type will differ based on school location
    • Recruitment Specialists can discuss in detail upon application to connect you to the classroom and best suits your experience and skillset
  • Contract through the school year - 37.5 to 40 hours per week
  • Contract follows the academic district calendar
Orientation & Mobility Specialist Duties:
  • Provide orientation and mobility instruction to students with visual impairments in school, and community environments.
  • Conduct assessments to determine students' O&M needs and develop Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives.
  • Teach safe travel techniques, including cane skills, environmental awareness, spatial orientation, and street crossings.
  • Collaborate with Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs), special educators, families, and related service providers to support student success.
  • Instruct students in the use of assistive and adaptive technology for independent travel.
  • Maintain detailed progress notes, reports, and documentation per district and state guidelines.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, team consultations, and professional development activities.
