ONCOLOGY NURSE PRACTITIONER POSITION SUMMARY We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Oncology Nurse Practitioner to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in oncology and a passion for providing care to underserved populations. In this role, you will manage and coordinate the oncology care of patients in a correctional environment, ensuring they receive timely and effective treatment in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
ONCOLOGY NURSE PRACTITIONER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Conduct thorough assessments, diagnosis, and treatment of inmates with oncological conditions.
- Keep track of all Oncology patients in the state. (ie: labs, imaging monitoring and notifying the Oncologist of abnormalities)
- Place all orders from Oncology into COMS
- Be present on telehealth appt.’s for Oncology
- Work closely with offsite Oncologist’s to ensure continuity of care
- Work with onsite providers to keep them in the loop of their patients at the facility level
- Develop and implement individualized care plans, including prescribing medications and therapies.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, and mental health professionals, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Educate patients and their families about the diagnosis, treatment options, and ongoing care management.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of patient care plans, making adjustments as necessary.
- Provide supportive care and pain management to improve the quality of life for patients with cancer.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in compliance with facility policies and state regulations.
- Participate in case conferences, staff meetings, and continuing education opportunities.
- Adhere to all safety and security protocols of the correctional facility.
ONCOLOGY NURSE PRACTITIONER REQUIREMENTS: - Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) with specialization in Oncology.
- Certification from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in oncology nursing, preferably in a correctional or similar environment.
- Strong clinical skills in oncology, including knowledge of current treatments, medications, and procedures.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a challenging and dynamic environment.
- Commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care to underserved populations.
