Position Title : Occupational Health Nurse
Department : 9010|NIRC Administration
Responsibilities :
The position reports to the AssociateDirector of New Iberia Research Center.The NewIberia Research Center provides resources for theconduct of basic and applied research requiring the use of non-human primatesaimed at the solution of human health and societal problems. In addition theCenter serves as a resource to the biomedical community, enabling investigatorsfrom other institutions to conduct all or part of their research.
Essential Functions:
-Administer occupational health, infection control and biological safety program according to applicable state and federal regulations and guidelines.
-Develops NIRC occupational health and biological safety policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
-Administer workman's compensation program and coordinate claims management with University departments and State agencies.
-Coordinate and communicate with physicians, hospitals and other healthcare providers as needed for non-human primate specific disease exposures.
-Conduct occupational health, infection control and biological safety related classes such as Bloodborne Pathogen, Zoonotic Disease, and Biosafety training.
-This person will coordinate NIRC compliance with the rules and regulations of the State of LA Offices of Risk Management and Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, AAALAC International and other applicable state and federal agencies.
Qualifications: Required Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree in Nursing
-Possession of a valid LA license to practicenursing.
-Bachelor's degree may besubstituted for a licensed practical nurse with at least 5 years ofoccupational health nursing/infection control experience.
Preferred Qualifications: -Individual must demonstrate the ability tocommunicate effectively with all staff members, potential employees, visitorsof the NIRC and outside healthcare providers.
-Must have a working knowledge of applicable federal and stateoccupational health regulations.
