Job Description:
The Meter Reader monitors commercial and residential customers' use of water by driving to a designated location based upon a route and record meter readings; inspect meters for defects; and monitor and report abnormal usage volume or tampering.
Essential Functions:
Operate a Company vehicle for travel to work areas, safely navigating and parking vehicle as designated to ensure public and personal safety in all job tasks.
Whether by walking or driving an assigned route, access meters using a meter hook for lifting and removing lids, and use meter reader device to record meter readings.
Obtain readings for ERT meters on customers' private property.
Enter trouble codes into meter reader device for meter boxes that are obscure, in hazardous condition, or not accessible, and/or would require longer than reasonable time to be spent obtaining a read.
Document meters in need of repair.
Repair/replace meter boxes, and replace lids/covers as needed.
Perform minor repairs to meters/services; perform minor landscape trimming to assure access to meter/boxes.
Prepare and operate service truck(s) daily including load needed materials and equipment, remove and dispose of debris, clean equipment and truck as needed.
Prepare necessary reports for service completed, as required.
Evaluate and set up appropriate traffic controls necessary to maintain a safe working environment per local, regional, and state regulatory and permitting requirements.
Perform work safely by adhering to Cal Water Safety programs and policies as well as reporting hazards and unsafe conditions.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform other duties as assigned to fulfill business operational needs and objectives.
Attend meetings and training as requested by New Mexico Water Service Company.
QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS
A Meter Reader must be able to effectively communicate with their supervisor, co-workers and the public;
Ability to perform basic mathematic functions to calculate figures;
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; and ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
This person must possess a High School diploma or equivalent,
Possess a Class C Driver's license, and be insurable under the Company's policy.
Salary Range: $35,500 - $67,400
