UPMC Presbyterian is hiring a Medical Lab Technicia n or Laboratory Support Technician to support the Automated Testing Lab (ATL)! We are looking for individuals interested in working night shift hours, 11:15 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. with rotating weekends and holidays.

Applicants will be placed into the appropriate job title and salary based on their individual experience and education. The Laboratory Support Technician' s salary starts at $17.78/hour.

UPMC is offering a Sign-on Bonus for MLT qualified candidates!:

\n - $7,000 for a 2-year commitment
\n - $10,000 for a 3-year commitment
\n
\n
Responsibilities:
\n
\n - Adheres to all established laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, methods, quality assurance, proficiency testing, and personnel policies.
\n - Follows established procedures for the collection (including phlebotomy, as required) and processing of specimens for analysis including the appropriateness and stability of the sample.
\n - Performs qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures according to established protocols with precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner.
\n - Recognizes critical, abnormal and unacceptable test results and follow-up according to established protocols. Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results and initiate the necessary corrective action according to established protocols.
\n - Identifies problems with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, supplies, or results and take action as outlined in predetermined protocols.
\n - Processes specimens for analysis. Enters accurate patient demographic information and laboratory test orders into the laboratory information system, while ascertaining adequacy of patient information and sample integrity.
\n - Independently performs Moderately Complex or Waived tests (qualitative and quantitative). Performs High Complexity testing only with the oversight of a Medical Lab Scientist or with result review by a Supervisor or Manager.
\n - Meets established testing protocols for precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner. Recognizes critical, abnormal, and unacceptable test results and follows-up according to established protocols.
\n - Performs and documents Quality Control according to established protocols. Informs supervisory personnel and/or pathologists of any unusual or problematic incidents.
\n - Operates and maintains equipment within the scope of training utilizing defined schedules and written instructions to perform quality control checks, preventive maintenance, and calibration. Perform minor repairs. Uses reagents and supplies cost-effectively; monitors and maintains an appropriate supply inventory.
\n - Monitors and maintains supplies for functions the position is responsible for; uses materials and reagents cost-effectively.
\n - Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and independent judgment. Recognizes priorities to accommodate department needs and acceptance of appropriate authority.
\n - Follows all biohazard, chemical, and sharps safety guidelines. Maintains a safe work environment.
\n - Assists with the training and orienting of new employees, students and residents, using established competency and workstation operational guidelines.

Medical Lab Technician:
\n
\n - Associate's degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), OR
\n - Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, with 6 months of clinical laboratory experience OR
\n - Equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing.
\n - Minimum 1 year's experience in a hospital laboratory preferred. Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems is preferred.

Laboratory Support Technician:
\n
\n - High School diploma or equivalent, and at least 2 years experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) required in a clinical lab, OR
\n - Associate degree (with biology and chemistry courses) and at least 1 year of experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) in a clinical lab, OR
\n - Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification and 1 year of experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) in a clinical lab, OR
\n - Successful completion of a 50 week U.S. military medical laboratory training course, OR
\n - B.S. degree from an accredited institution with a major in a biological or clinical laboratory science OR
\n - Currently enrolled in an MLS (Medical Laboratory Scientist) or equivalent training program, with 3 years college credits required. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
