The role supervises large maintenance teams responsible for the repair and maintenance of manufacturing facilities and equipment. Responsibilities include performing preventive maintenance and repairs on electrical and mechanical equipment and systems, fabricating replacement tools and parts, planning and prioritizing work orders, scheduling repair and maintenance activities to minimize production downtime, troubleshooting and diagnosing problems, recommending equipment improvements, and implementing departmental policies and strategy. The superintendent manages performance, quality, scheduling, and skill development of the maintenance department, ensures continuous and efficient operation of the maintenance team, manages deployment of technicians, integrates preventative maintenance and continuous improvement processes, ensures safety focus, manages inspection and acceptance processes, oversees outage planning, manages troubleshooting efforts, reviews productivity reports, oversees in-house design and fabrication, implements strategic direction, enforces safety observances, communicates goals and policies, staffs, trains and coaches colleagues, reviews performance, recommends salary increases, and administers discipline. Education and experience typically include a Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 8-12 years of relevant experience. Knowledge required includes manufacturing operations, maintenance concepts, mechanical, electrical/electronic, instrumentation, computer systems, equipment assembly/disassembly, troubleshooting, project management, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
