Job Summary

The Life Skills Coach provides direct support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, empowering them to lead more independent and fulfilling lives. This role focuses on assisting individuals both in their homes and within community-based settings. Support includes daily living activities, skill-building, personal growth, and community inclusion, all delivered with empathy and patience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with daily living skills such as hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management.
  • Support individuals in accessing and participating in community-based activities such as volunteering, recreation, and transportation to appointments.
  • Promote independence and inclusion through coaching and skill development tailored to each person's goals.
  • Implement and document individualized service plans and behavior strategies.
  • Monitor and ensure the health, safety, and overall well-being of individuals supported.
  • Maintain accurate, timely records of services, incidents, and progress notes.
  • Collaborate with families, coworkers, and outside professionals to ensure quality care.
  • Advocate for individual rights while treating all individuals with respect, dignity, and patience .

Qualifications

  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to pass background checks and complete all required training (e.g., CPR, First Aid, etc.).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A high level of patience , compassion, and commitment to person-centered support.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, or overnights if needed.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience in caregiving, community services, or human support roles.
  • Understanding of positive behavior support and person-centered planning.
  • Basic computer proficiency for documentation and communication.
