Job Description

The Scientific Team at Russell Tobin & Associates is hiring a Lab Assistant for one of the largest clinical laboratory organizations in the US near West Hills, CA! The individual will be working in a fast-paced, production-focused, high volume environment performing an important component of clinical lab science to support laboratory professional staff.

Responsibilities:

• Receive and sort clinical lab specimens
• Prepare specimens for testing and analysis
• Prepare reagents and/or media in the department
• Performing laboratory tasks of centrifuging specimens, printing extra labels, recording data (temperature charts)
• Specimen storage and retrieval
• Performs QA/QC duties as assigned
• Preparing specimens at workstations for testing
• building worklists, aliquoting specimens into sample cups, checking specimens for clots and fibrin, inoculation, slide preparation
• Ensure all lab equipment is working properly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance

• Find missing samples, resolve pending lists

• Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Changes gas cylinders, performs weekly radioactive wipe tests
• Follow all PPE requirements and all safety regulations
• Decontaminates work areas, dispose biohazardous material

Education/Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Math and science courses preferred
• Medical assistant training helpful
• Comfortability with handling biological specimens
• Ability to accurately identify specimens

Skills:

• Must have the ability to establish work priorities and to handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency
• Must be able to retain information once learned
• Must interact with other coworkers, internal and external customers with courtesy and respect

• High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask
• Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills
• Strong communication skills; both written and verbal

Additional Details:

• Pay Range: $22-$24/hr
• Shift: 6:00AM - 2:30PM PST
• Must be flexible with days of the week
• 100% Onsite
• 6-month contract to start
• Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
