Job Description
LSI seeks part-time occasional Spanish and French interpreters to serve clients within our Early Childhood program in the Waterloo area.
Interpretation will be done either in person or virtually. Must be familiar with technology for virtual interpretation.
Hours and shifts will vary, with no guaranteed number of hours each week.
One should be fluent in either the Spanish, French, Dari or Pashto languages. Prefer day time shift.Living near the Waterloo area is required.
What You'll Do
Interpreters provide direct interpretation and translation services between users of different languages. Interpret conversations in person or over the phone, and translate documents and forms. Interpreters must communicate effectively with clients, community partners, volunteers, and staff to ensure high and efficient quality of service to clients. Our Interpreters uphold interpretation ethics and guidelines.Length of position assignment may depend on the changing language needs of the program.
What You'll Need Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma/equivalent and 1 year of experience interpreting in the refugee community. Qualified applicants will be fluent in English and one of the languages listed above. This position prefers a valid driver's license, auto insurance, a good driving record and the ability to pass an extensive background check including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry and a criminal history check.Who We Are
