Exciting Opportunity: High School Spanish Teacher

As a High School Spanish Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will play a pivotal role in shaping global citizens. You will become an expert in your subject, inspiring and motivating high school students to embrace the Spanish language. Your classroom will be a safe haven where students can express themselves and grow academically. By the end of high school, your students will be ready for academic autonomy and college preparatory work.

Key Responsibilities:1. Instruction
  • Enhance students' bilingual skills and prepare them for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate coursework.
  • Boost students' confidence in navigating authentic print and audio sources.
  • Teach essential foreign language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
  • Cultivate cultural awareness through language learning.
  • Share your passion for Spanish to foster a confident speaking community.
  • Encourage students to engage in conversations in Spanish.
  • Collaborate with the Spanish department to set academic and engagement goals.
2. Data Analysis
  • Meet weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze student work and assessments.
  • Implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners.
3. School Culture
  • Build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard.
  • Partner with families to provide resources that support their child's learning.
  • Engage in professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
  • Participate in weekly school-wide meetings to foster community and encourage student achievement.
  • Collaborate with your grade level team to develop academic goals and instructional strategies.
Qualifications:
  • A strong commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
  • A collaborative spirit, eager to work with internal and external partners for student success.
  • A self-directed learner who actively seeks and implements feedback.
  • Required Experience:
    • 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban schools preferred.
    • Academic expertise in Spanish or related fields.
    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required. Certification is not mandatory at hiring, but you must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements.

Compensation:

The salary for this role ranges from $50,000 to $64,700 . Starting pay is determined by various factors, including relevant teaching experience and education certifications.
