About the Role
The Company is in search of a General Counsel to lead its in-house legal team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing essential guidance on a wide range of legal matters, including but not limited to, First Amendment law, data and privacy, company strategy, corporate governance, agreements and transactions, regulatory compliance, and employment and union issues. This role requires a hands-on legal professional with a problem-solving mindset, extensive experience in media or related industries, and expertise in areas such as editorial content, advertising, marketing, and a variety of legal contracts. The General Counsel will also be tasked with managing a small legal team, coordinating with outside counsel, and ensuring the company's compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should have a minimum of 20 years of relevant legal experience, with a strong background in media or related industries. The ideal candidate will possess excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to align legal strategies with business goals. A JD from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to the New York State Bar are required. The role demands a professional with a proven track record of managing a successful legal team, upholding ethical standards, and making informed decisions to support the company's legal, risk management, and compliance objectives. Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to anticipate and address legal challenges, and a commitment to reducing outside legal spending are also key qualifications for this position.
