Job Description

Overview
TRC is seeking Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) Technicians to support a growing aerospace flight test program. This position is ideal for hands-on aircraft or avionics professionals who take pride in precision work, teamwork, and technical problem-solving.
The FTI Technician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting flight test instrumentation systems that collect critical data for aircraft validation, safety, and certification. These systems connect hundreds of sensors and networks across the airframe—making this a role central to every flight test milestone.

What You’ll Do

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) systems on aircraft.
  • Perform sensor installation for strain gages, accelerometers, thermocouples, and pressure transducers.
  • Fabricate and install orange wiring harnesses and other test-specific cabling.
  • Support pre- and post-flight instrumentation checks, ensuring data integrity and system readiness.
  • Work directly with engineering teams to interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and build documentation.
  • Provide real-time feedback on system performance and installation improvements.
  • Participate in aircraft troubleshooting and flight line support during active test campaigns.
  • Build and configure test setups and instrumentation assemblies prior to aircraft installation.
  • Maintain documentation, labeling, and calibration records for all instrumentation components.
  • Ensure all work meets safety, quality, and traceability standards.

What We’re Looking For
  • Hands-on experience with aircraft systems, avionics, or electrical installation (commercial, military, or experimental).
  • Strong soldering and wiring skills; familiarity with strain gage installation is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring schematics, and layout diagrams.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to work safely under dynamic test schedules.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills; comfortable working with engineers and test personnel on live aircraft.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities during aircraft build and test phases.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working in both shop and flight line environments.

Preferred Backgrounds
  • Prior Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) or related aerospace test experience.
  • Experience as an avionics or electrical technician in military or commercial aviation.
  • Skilled in soldering, crimping, wiring harness fabrication, and connector assembly.
  • Exposure to flight line operations, instrumentation calibration, or data system testing.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems, telemetry, or strain measurement tools.
