Principal function:  This position (estimated between 30-40 hours per week) includes the primary responsibilities of attending to the upkeep and maintenance of the church buildings and property. Primary responsibilities include general maintenance, oversight of all building equipment, reconfiguration of rooms as needed, light handyperson projects, opening and closing building during normal business hours and for special events, coordination with various vendors performing facility and grounds-related services for the church. This position reports to the Pastor.

Responsibilities:

  • Upkeep of church facilities.
  • Perform small routine maintenance tasks, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, audio/visual systems, and custodial skills, if appropriate.
  • Coordinate weekly cleaning schedules with those providing janitorial services.
  • Assist with cleaning church facilities as needed.
  • Coordinate and facilitate set up of various church areas/rooms for church events.
  • Work closely with Church Office Staff on weekly church schedule to ensure areas of the church requiring reconfiguration are done successfully and completed relative to need and timing.
  • Perform set up and tear down activities.
  • Opening, closing, preparation of all facilities and grounds for all functions including electronic access control to the buildings.
  • Coordinate and facilitate contracted work.
  • Draft specifications for contracted work, prepare statement of work, gain approval of proposal, obtain bids, assist with the selection, oversees performance of contractor, function as point of contact between contractor and SMBC. Communicates with the Pastor and Trustee Board as it relates to contracted work, as required.
  • Coordination with various vendors that regularly provide services for the church.
  • Serve as the main contact and coordination point for lawn services, exterminators, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire alarms, security systems, etc.
  • Maintained maintenance budget, documentation of all contract agreements, warranties, safety-related documentation, and ensures Office Staff has copies.
  • Prepare schedules of preventative maintenance for all aspects of the buildings and equipment and ensure preventative maintenance is conducted.
  • Work with office staff.
  • Prioritize required work.
  • Provide administrative support to connect with various church ministries (i.e., children/youth and women) as requested, including, but not limited to:
  • Addressing facility needs.
  • Making repairs as needed.
  • Event planning for special days.
  • Provide support for funeral/memorial services, Vacation Bible Study, church rental events, etc.
  • Work cooperatively and constructively with church leadership.
  • Accepts constructive suggestions/criticism in an open manner.
  • Perform other tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task and innovate when new challenges arise.
  • Experience with Janitorial Services, Facilities Maintenance, Light handyperson work, Changing light bulbs, Light carpentry work, and Light plumbing upkeep.
  • Minimum of high school diploma (college a plus).
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in facility maintenance.
  • Strong verbal skills.
  • Proactive in seeing and addressing facility needs.
  • Physically able to handle cleaning, lifting, climbing ladders, etc.
  • Able to perform routine maintenance tasks, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, audio/visual systems, and custodial skills.
  • Able to work indoors and outdoors.
  • Be available for emergencies for those using the building.
  • Discretion and confidentiality in all matters related to church members and church business.
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Familiar with state and local building and property maintenance codes.
  • Committed to maintaining the buildings in accordance with state and local codes and ordinances.
