JOB DESCRIPTION

Westchester, a Chubb Company, is seeking a Senior or Executive Casualty Underwriter to join our Property & Casualty team. The role focuses on achieving profitable underwriting results through growth, development, servicing, and underwriting of Westchester's business.

The Senior/Executive Underwriter 's primary responsibilities include:

  • Understanding of coverage, terms, and conditions. Ability to offer coverage that is profitable for the company while meeting customer needs.
  • Risk assessment skills. Ability to identify risk exposures, hazards, and appropriate controls. Ability to analyze claims and quantify losses.
  • Financial proficiency. Understanding financial statements, ratios, and the impact of underwriting decisions on assets. Ability to assess credit risk.
  • Actuarial fundamentals. Ability to analyze loss trends, loss triangles, and ratemaking. Ability to forecast risks based on experience history.
  • Marketing and communication skills. Ability to sell, negotiate, and communicate effectively, based on strategic thinking. Ability to manage producer strategy.
  • Systems and software proficiency. Ability to use necessary systems and programs for daily operations.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Soliciting new and renewal submissions from brokers.
  • Determining terms, conditions, and complex rating plans.
  • Binding coverage.
  • Documenting underwriting files.
  • Handling complex files within authority.
  • Guiding and mentoring junior staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
