Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband network connectivity to un-served and under-served communities around the world. The Kuiper Security team partners with builder teams to ensure our systems are secure by default and delightful for customers.

As the head of Kuiper Security, you’ll be responsible for leading and growing a team that protects Project Kuiper technology and infrastructure from customer homes to space. The variety of systems and scale of an advanced satellite broadband telecom service require our security team to continually Invent and Simplify and Dive Deep. Our customers expect Project Kuiper to provide service that protects their information at the highest standard, and we need a Customer-Obsessed leader who can Think Big and enable all of our teams to deliver. This team plays a significant role in the delivery of the overall Kuiper program, and is an invigorating challenge for a leader with deep curiosity and operational skill.

EXPORT CONTROL REQUIREMENT

Key job responsibilities
We are looking for a Director of Kuiper Security reporting to the Vice President and CISO of Amazon’s Devices & Services business. This role will be responsible for all information security related to our Project Kuiper initiative from design through operations, including provisioning and chain of trust establishment, pre-launch application security, monitoring, incident and global risk management. Most importantly, you will continue growing and evolving a diverse, passionate, high performing team charged with helping to protect customer trust in Amazon. We operate on a global scale at speed and demand high standards, so passion and discipline around security and high-quality delivery is essential.

About the team
As Director of Kuiper Security, you will be part of the larger technical and product leadership community at Amazon. This community is the backbone of the company, plays a critical role in the broad business planning, and you will be working closely with senior executives to develop business targets and resource requirements. You will use your influence on our long-term technical and business strategy, helps us hire talented team of security engineers and ultimately enable us to deliver innovative new solutions rapidly.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- BS in Computer Science or related engineering discipline preferred.
- 10+ years of relevant work experience in software, network, systems, or security engineering.
- 10+ years of management experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- National Security background and ability to get a security clearance.
- The ideal candidate will be a passionate evangelist for security and adept at balancing business needs with security requirements.
- They will have a proven track-record as a leader of security leaders and be a consummate professional in their presentation and approach.
- Highly credible influencer at all levels of the organization, in order to ensure that security remains a central consideration during all phases of development work across a diverse set of engineering disciplines.
- Able to give compelling presentations to audiences at all levels both within Amazon and externally.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $250,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $350,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
