Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent preferred but not required
  • Some custodial experience preferred
  • Relates well to children
  • Well-groomed
  • Cheerful/pleasing personality
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to assist in keeping all school buildings and surrounding areas clean and orderly
  • Knowledge of human growth and development
  • Good physical condition; ability to maintain continuous physical effort, including standing, bending, climbing, squatting, stopping, walking, lifting of heavy equipment, and frequent periods requiring sustain uncomfortable positions; frequent use of hands, fingers, and arms to handle, reach, lift, or touch objects, tools, or supplies
  • Ability to exercise caution and proper sanitary precautions when cleaning bathrooms and handling trash, garbage, and other potential hazards; willingness and ability to exercise safe work practices at ALL times
  • Ability to write and read in order that one could follow detailed written instructions; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, students, and the general public
  • Ability to work irregular hours, split shifts, and/or weekends
  • Good disciplinary skills
  • Good human relation skills

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Perform routine and varied custodial duties and minor repairs in maintaining the cleanliness and appearance in assigned school buildings; assist in sanitation control; and, check for safety hazards

  • Clean assigned areas such as bathrooms, classrooms, hallways, dormitories, guest houses, other buildings, etc., using designated cleaning products, hand tools, and electrically operated buffers, strippers, waxers, vacuum cleaners, and shampooers; perform scheduled duties such as sweeping of floors and stairways, washing/mopping, waxing and polishing, cleaning and dusting furniture, polishing conference tables and countertops, emptying waste containers
  • Inspect assigned are and identify maintenance needs and safety hazards; complete related work orders and cleaning supply requisitions and submit to supervisor; correct hazardous conditions and notify supervisor of situation
  • Restock restroom supplies, such as paper products and soap, in assigned areas
  • Assist in picking up garbage and trash removal in offices and buildings; replace trash can liners as needed, empty and decontaminate trash containers; properly dispose of infectious waste materials
  • Sanitize restrooms, which includes toilets, face bowls, urinals and showers where applicable, and floors
  • Maintain the cleaning supply inventory; maintain proper storage of all cleaning materials
  • Maintain cleaning equipment; report needs for minor equipment repair to supervisor
  • Clean glass entrances and mirrors using proper cleaning solvents and towels for glass surfaces
  • Assist in setting up facilities for meetings and special events; rearrange and clean facilities after events
  • Assist in moving and assembling furniture; unloading supplies or equipment; picking up and delivering materials
  • Assist in checking all areas around the school for safety hazards and reporting any deficiencies; maintain and upkeep buildings and facilities for safe, sanitary working conditions; report needs for major repairs and graffiti in assigned area to supervisor
  • Attend staff meetings and other school related meetings as required
  • Exercise proper and safe work practices at all times

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serve as supervisor over student workers; monitor and train student(s) in performing tasks in a proper and safe manner
  • Handle discipline
  • Carry out all school rules, policies and procedures
  • Help enforce students’ dress code and report violators
  • Perform other related functions as requested by your supervisor or other school administrators

Special Requirements and Notification:

Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, such as disposable gloves, face masks and/or eye shields, when working directly with bodily fluids and other potentially hazardous waste or material. Due to occupational exposure to potentially infectious materials, the employee may elect to receive the Hepatitis B vaccination series at no cost at all to the employee.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $15.00-$17.00 per hour
