SUMMARY:

The Controller will be able to manage and maintain the company’s financial health. The Controller will also lead, develop and coach the Accounting Department, Revenue Audit, Payroll and Accounts Payable areas.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee daily casino accounting functions as it pertains to gaming operations. Responsible for gaming documents records retention program.
  • Oversee all regulatory compliance requirements outlined in the Tribal State Compact and Title 31 requirements.
  • Enforce casino regulatory rules and regulations and casino internal and accounting controls in order to safeguard company assets.
  • Handle customer service and employee related problems with composure and professionalism.
  • Monitor business demands and recommends necessary scheduling and staffing adjustments.
  • Review departmental expenses in the Accounting, Revenue Audit, Payroll and Accounts Payable departments, ensuring that they adhere to the budget.
  • Supervise day-to-day activities for Revenue Audit, Payroll and Accounts Payable; provides training, planning, assigning and directing work; interviews and hires; appraises performance, rewards, and disciplines employees; corrects and approves timecards, schedules time off, and posts shift bids; and addresses complaints and resolves problems.
  • Ensures and maintains a system of internal controls for Accounts Payable, Revenue Audit, Payroll and administrative controls as related to employees, policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to departmental effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues and goals, recommending courses of actions, and implementing directives.
  • Assist in coordinating activities with external and internal auditors, as needed; ensures all requested financial close and related information is done accurately and timely.
  • Conduct annual department evaluation and assessments of department components and staff according to established policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Attend and satisfactorily completes all required training as assigned and required., plans, and directs a program of accounting and financial analysis.
  • Analyzes and interprets financial report information and financial reconciliations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years accounting experience with 2 years of demonstrated management and leadership in an accounting environment. Casino Accounting experience is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Title 31 and Casino Accounting compliance.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, SharePoint, and relevant accounting software is required.
  • Knowledge of budget and procurement practices and procedures with a detailed knowledge of GAAP.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimal, and work with mathematical such as probability and inference. Ability to create, read and analyze spread sheets of statistical data. Ability to decipher various reports and maintains reports upon request.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, analytical, and research experience to perform audits or large- and small-scale projects.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to delegate, multi-task, lead and prioritize effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills required with good motivational and collaboration emphasis; communicates change effectively, overcomes resistance and builds commitment.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems while exhibiting sound judgment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize own work and work of others in a setting with frequent and rapid priority and assignment changes and additions coming from multiple sources.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as financial reports, legal documents, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/SS) in Business Administration or Accounting and /or combination of education and experience is highly preferred.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background investigation, and maintain a Pauma Gaming Commission License.

WORKING CONDTIONS:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • This role will require occasional movement throughout the property.
  • The person in this role frequently communicates with others that may have questions, they must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment and may work in close spaces with others.
  • Will be exposed to casino related environmental factors including, but not limited to, secondhand smoke, excessive noise and constant exposure to the general public.
