Job Description

The American Littoral Society is a nonprofit, membership-based organization headquartered on Sandy Hook in Highlands, NJ. The American Littoral Society promotes the study and conservation of marine life and habitat, protects the coast from harm, and empowers others to do the same. We are offering two summer internship opportunities based out of Sandy Hook National Recreation Area in Highlands, New Jersey.

Coastal Education Internship (2 internships available)

Primary Responsibilities will include:

- Leading hands-on outdoor education programs involving seining, kayaking, and other outdoor activities.

- Leading outdoor nature walks and trips for the public.

- Assisting in community science projects involving marine life identification.

- Researching, writing, and designing public education materials on coastal/marine topics for various audiences.

- Representing the Society at outreach events.

Qualifications:

College students or recent graduates with environmental science, marine science, ecology or similar background may apply. Informal and/or formal education teaching experience preferred (however training will be provided). Qualified individuals must enjoy sharing their enthusiasm for the coastal environment with people from all age groups and walks of life. The internship will require the use of a personal vehicle and laptop.

These internships are paid, part time with some evenings and weekends required.

This is an excellent opportunity to work with a well-established non-profit organization that promotes coastal conservation through education, restoration, and advocacy.

The Littoral Society pays $15/hour at an estimated 25 hours per week, May – August 2024.

Housing is not available. Must be located within a reasonable distance of Highlands, NJ.
