Emory University Orthopedics & Spine Hospital (EUOSH) achieved Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a reflection of its nursing professionalism, teamwork, and superiority in patient care. EUOSH inpatient nursing has a very active Unit Practice Council and shared governance is an important part of decision making. EUOSH focuses on the orthopedics surgery needs of our patients. Our surgical services include major joint replacement (hip, knee and shoulder), minimally invasive orthopedic surgery, hip resurfacing, spine surgery, spinal fusions, scoliosis and spine deformity surgery, artificial spine disc replacement.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is the clinical lead for a program or an area of defined nursing practice. Provides leadership in order to integrate new knowledge and innovation within a specialty area. Utilizes specialized knowledge and skills within the three spheres of influence: patient/family, nurses, and the organization/system. Collaborates with the Nursing Director(s) to lead clinical practice and education on the unit, within the division, and across the health system. Accountable for designing, implementing, and measuring safe, cost effective, evidence-based care strategies. Contributes to the advancement of nursing practice at the unit/system, local, state and national and international levels and is instrumental in the application of the Professional Practice/Care Transformation Model across the health system. Leads implementation of the Care Transformation Model. Leads programs and initiatives that are congruent with EHC and nursing's strategic plan. Models transformational leadership behaviors. Demonstrates leadership in ethical decision-making and patient advocacy. Engages in ongoing self-evaluation, seeking input from colleagues, other professionals, patients, and families. Leads implementation in the principles of fair and just culture. Provides direct care for complex patients with multi-system care issues. Proficient in use of technology to expedite care. Works jointly with nurses and other disciplines to promote patient and family-centered care. Utilizes principles of effective communication. Is cognizant of the diverse needs of patients, staff, and other professionals. Considers cultural influences when collaborating with patients, family, and staff. Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
Must have a valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board; Master's degree in nursing; Meets GA Board of Nursing requirements for CNS; Three years of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse with at least two years of recent experience in the area of concentration. BLS and ACLS certifications required.
