About the Role

The Company is in search of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with a strong background in media and a deep commitment to independent journalism, particularly in the realm of education and public service. The CEO will be responsible for overseeing both the editorial and business aspects of the organization, setting and maintaining a strategic focus that aligns with the company's mission. This includes leading a team of 25, setting annual objectives, managing budgets, and ensuring the financial sustainability of the organization. The ideal candidate will also be tasked with leading fundraising efforts, fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, and upholding the highest journalistic and ethical standards. Key responsibilities for the CEO at the company include serving as the primary ambassador, both for the organization and its mission, and as a spokesperson at relevant events. The role involves a strong emphasis on providing organizational and operational clarity, as well as cultivating a culture of continuous learning and professional development. The successful candidate will be expected to build and maintain successful external partnerships, particularly within the media and journalism community, and to stay informed about and adopt new, effective business approaches and storytelling methods. Recruiting, developing, and retaining a talented and diverse team, as well as ensuring full and fair coverage of the education landscape in California, are also critical components of the position.
