The Surgical Assistant, under the direction and supervision of the surgeon, provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure and other intraoperative technical functions. The Surgical Assistant may also perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care. Assist the operating surgeon in the care of patient in surgery by performing selected duties. Provides direct and indirect technical care to surgical/obstetrical patients. Facilitates safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. Surgical Assistant follows established practices and standards. Surgical Assistant completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned to Surgical Assistant
\n \n \n\n\n \n\n\n \n \n Qualifications \n \n \nMINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited program.
\nMINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 3 years of scrub and/or assisting experience.
\nPREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 5 years of surgical technician experience.
\nREQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Must be Certified Surgical Technologist. Certification as a certified first assistant through the NBSTSA, ABSA or NSAA.
\nREQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): BLS-Obtained through approved American Heart Association
