Position Overview:

The art director will be a key member of the editorial team, leading the design and execution of multimedia content across a variety of platforms, including print and digital magazines. This role involves page layout design, digital content creation, and managing creative projects in a fast-paced environment. The art director will work closely with various stakeholders and oversee in-house and freelance designers, while aligning visual outputs with organizational goals. The position is based at our headquarters in Alexandria, VA.

Scope of Responsibilities:

• Lead the execution and ideation of page layouts and covers for magazines and other print publications.
• Design and execute digital content for web and non-magazine materials, ensuring high-quality work under tight deadlines.
• Create digital media content for various platforms, including newsletters and website features.
• Manage in-house and freelance creatives, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines.
• Assist with cross-departmental design efforts, contributing to marketing and campaign visuals.
• Ensure all design work aligns with organizational goals and visual identity.
• Stay informed about industry trends and continuously evolve design strategies.
• Implement efficient workflows for production cycles, ensuring deadlines are met across multiple projects.

Qualifications:

• Expertise in editorial design for both print and digital, with a focus on typography and layout composition.
• Familiarity with designing engaging digital magazine experiences optimized for various platforms.
• Minimum three years of relevant experience in content-based design across print and digital.
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
• Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends, including Generative AI.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong soft skills to manage multiple projects and work under pressure.
