ASSIGNMENT DETAILS Position Title: Adult Basic Education Teacher
Department/Building: Community Education/Central Lakes Community College Brainerd Campus
Reports to: Director of Community Education
Position Duty Days/Contract: 16 hours per week during the school year. Times and days may vary according to the ABE program schedule which is typically based upon CLC's semester schedule. Position would start August 15, 2022 and work through the end of May.
Salary Range: Hourly rate based on Certified Master Contract
POSITION SUMMARY The primary goal of this position is to deliver group and/or individualized instruction to adult learners participating in Brainerd Public Schools Community Education Adult Basic Education classes. Classes are typically located on the Brainerd campus of CLC, but may include alternate sub sites. Instruction will include ABE core content at various levels across College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS). Integration of technology skills (Northstar Digital Literacy) and instruction relating to employment soft skills (ACES) will also be embedded into all ABE classes. Specific topics could include test preparation (including Accuplacer, GED), college readiness, and career pathway training. Instruction may also include management of approved distance learning platform(s). Professional development opportunities are provided to support all topics specific to ABE.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Facilitate delivery of adult basic education content to include: planning, organizing and delivering instruction consistent with Brainerd ABE's mission, goals, and policies.
- Evaluate and monitor student learning, identify needs, strengths, goals, and progress through ongoing assessment.
- Other duties include: monitor student attendance, keep accurate student records, and submit weekly attendance/progress reports.
- Participate in recommended and required meetings and ABE professional development online or at local, regional, and statewide training.
- Other duties delegated by ABE program coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS - Current Minnesota teaching license.
- Previous experience with ABE instruction or other experience working with adult learners in an interactive, result-oriented environment is preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT Employees in this position will be required to work indoors in an educational environment on a college campus. (*Some positions could include ABE instruction in the county jail.) Employees may come in direct contact with students, school district and college staff, outside agency staff or physical objects that may require a quick response or moving and lifting.
